Pray for Your President
Although there are many politicians and leaders to pray for, the Presidential race and role has dominated and will likely continue to dominate the news. The office of President has often been referred to as the "leader of the free world" and their international influence is profound.
Post-election many supporters of losing candidates will feel frustrated, disheartened, and perhaps even fearful for the future. Others who had supported the Presidential winner will feel encouraged, excited, and hopeful. What can all of us do together? Pray.
"First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way." 1 Timothy 2:1-2
Although there are many ways we can pray for our new President and other political leaders, here are five ways to start praying:
1. Fear and Seek God. Although both major party candidates have claimed a Christian faith, such faith claims have not seemed to play out often or publicly into their words and actions. Let us pray that everyday they fearfully respect and seek God.
2. Godly Wisdom. So many decisions will be required daily or our new leader. May God grant them wisdom like Solomon, wisdom that is both supernatural and God-centered.
3. Moral Integrity. No matter their past, may the present and future behavior of our president be holy, righteous, and good. May they be a consistent example to others and faithful to obey God's commands.
4. Humility. Let the thoughts and mind of our new leader be less on themself and more on Jesus and others. Let's ask God that they start their day in the Bible so that their mind is renewed, transformed, and humbled by God's powerful Word.
5. Love and Courage. May our President sincerely love God and love others more than themself so that their leadership is courageous and sacrificial.
Although we only had one opportunity to vote this year, we have 365 daily opportunities ahead in the next year to lift our President in prayer to our eternal, all-powerful, and sovereign God!!
